The RedHill House - Canberra

In business you must find your ‘people’ the clients you want to work for / with. I have spent years building relationships with the right people… I will always look after those who are loyal and are innovative in their field. Who trust in my ability to create beautiful marketing material for them. If you have ideas and a strong vision, I will work with you to make it come to life in a visual form.

Pioneer Kitchens - Red Hill project

I’ve been doing a bit of tripping around the East Coast of Australia and Tasmania photographing some Hotels for Accor….. My loyal and loving Canberra clients waited patiently for my return… Thank goodness.

Pioneer Kitchens - a well respected, family run business is one of my much loved clients that I photograph for. Lidia selects the right projects that need to be photographed and brings along her beautiful props to the shoot.

This particular kitchen didn’t need any props as it was perfection. Simplicity in its best form! Take a squiz!

Me.

Me. Kasey. I'm just a lover of creative expression. Be it dance, song, photography, pottery, films, mother nature, creative writing, architecture. I love strong humans in business who step forward and take risks, with a family to nurture this can be a real juggle… albeit satisfying when it is in full swing. I’m happiest when I’m with my family, in the ocean, travelling, dancing or with the sun on my face.

I have been making dollars with photography since 2012 as my full-time business. Shooting mostly interiors / lifestyle work. Although it would be perhaps smart to put all my effort into one genre, I still am open to photographing ’nearly’ anything… and enjoy the diversity it brings. My day to day work is with architects, builders, agents, marketing teams…however I will still find time for clients who ask me to document their family within their space. (I do enjoy environmental portraiture)

I feel like I am being pushed and pulled along by my business, one minute I am in my head about ways to nurture and grow it, in order to see it thrive without looking for other ways to make money. The next moment I am enjoying an influx of new and inspiring clients and am then searching for ways to nurture myself rather than my business!

In business I can feel like an imposter one day and a Queen the next. I’m not good at allowing vulnerability into my life as a natural habit, in fact I fight against it with a fierce protection to my heart. The way I heal myself on the imposter days is with sunshine, warmth, gentle tunes, warm water, yoga in my lounge room, dance. Space.

On the Queen days I’m a force to be reckoned with.

The AIPP provides a community of superb humans… If we are a group of photographers who are all open and motivated by providing support to others in the industry we will always prosper.

Honestly, I'm not one to search for inspiration online. It mostly comes organically to me. I don’t want to be a copy of someone else's work, but I do enjoy workshops that inspire and motivate me as a human rather than a photographer.

If I was to offer you some of my tastes on books, cinema, podcasts or websites I would absolutely start with (what I would say is the most brilliant cinematography) ’The Handmaid’s Tale on SBS.

The Love Love Love podcast (Yan Palmer), EstLiving.com, SPACES magazine, It’s what I do - A photographers life of love and war by Lynsey Addario. (90% of the literature I enjoy is non-fiction)

Who do you think you are SBS, Who’s been sleeping in my house ABC, really, any Australian architectural design series.

AIPP State Awards 2019

The Australian Institute of Professional Photographers Awards presentation night was last night. I was absolutely ecstatic to be honoured with three huge awards!

1. 2019 AIPP ACT Professional Photographer of the year

ACT stamps - 19-01.png

2. 2019 AIPP ACT Commercial Photographer of the year

ACT stamps - 19-09Commercial.png

3. 2019 AIPP ACT highest scoring print

The magnitude of these awards is not lost with me, I am so completely grateful.

Each year members and non members of the AIPP put their creative talents out there to be judged and critiqued by their industry peers. It can be exhilarating and completely nerve wracking at the same time.

Judges of these awards use their technical, emotional, educated abilities to judge each print. They use their personal experiences and life views… including their knowledge in photography, art and art history. It's an important task that needs empathy and understanding that the photographer has put their heart into their work and put it out into the universe to be judged despite their vulnerability. Hoping that someone will understand it and appreciate it their work.

As creatives we are an emotional bunch of people, who manage to live our lives alongside our art. We run businesses that are solely based on our stamina and desire to be unique and driven each day. To continue learning and up-skilling, to embrace the emotional variables that comes with running a successful business that is based on your heart, mind and skill set.

You (I) need to be the master of your craft, a marketing genius, client relationship nurturer, book keeper / accountant, technical expert, architectural scholar, real estate cleaner, child wrangler, light reader, mother natures friend, location scouter, saleswomen, multitasker… mother, wife.

In business you need to know your WHY… Why do I do what I do? For the love of it, the joy of it. The spaces I see and capture and the people I do it for.
Who are my clients? It's the people I choose that fit into my aesthetic, who appreciate me and my creative style. Who are loyal and enthusiastic. Who value my work and my art. Who back me and trust in me to create something that will represent their business and their brand.

I have a really amazing support crew who continue to believe in me and my work. Thank you.
Peace
K x

Di + Drew Wedding

Weddings… love them right!

When I started my photographer journey back in 1997, I photographed weddings - on film! yikes!

When Di + Drew asked me to capture their wedding day, I said yes, yes of course! both are unique in style and flavour (which I am attracted too!) Di can cross from boho, hippie, organic natural to knitted Nanna with ease. I knew I would be able to relax into my own ‘lifestyle’ style and flow through the event, capturing the beauty as it unfolded….. plus coloured smoke was involved!

oh yeah, two more things.. Crowded House + Fleetwood Mac!!

check - it - out!
